ROUNDABOUT CREATIVE PLACEMAKING

A Civic Gateway Where Movement, Landscape, and Global Identity Meet

A roundabout is often understood only as traffic infrastructure. This proposal reimagines it as a memorable civic place — a gateway, gathering landmark, and visual identity for the community in Georgia.

At the center of the roundabout, a sculptural globe becomes the focal point. It symbolizes connection, diversity, travel, and the relationship between the local community and the wider world. Surrounded by planting, paving, lighting, and pedestrian viewing areas, the roundabout becomes more than a circulation device. It becomes a place that people can recognize, remember, and photograph.

design concept process

The design introduces a circular landscape composition that softens the road environment while creating a strong visual destination. Low planting, seasonal color, and textured paving frame the central artwork without blocking visibility for vehicles. The surrounding hardscape can include map-inspired patterns, cultural references, or engraved local stories, turning the ground plane into an educational and artistic surface.
