Location: Tangshan, Nanjing, China
Project Type: Master Planning | Museum Landscape | Historic Preservation
The Geological Park is an integral part of the master plan for the Nanjing Ape Man Cave Museum, a site of immense archaeological and cultural significance. Located in the serene Tangshan region of Nanjing, the project connects two major landscape elements: the modern museum plaza and the ancient cave site where early human fossils were discovered.
The landscape design emphasizes harmony between history, nature, and visitor experience. A thoughtfully planned pathway links the museum entrance to the Ape Man cave, guiding visitors through a sequence of immersive experiences. A flowing stream runs parallel to the walkway, creating moments of tranquility and interaction with nature. Strategically placed planting islands, outdoor plazas, and a café pavilion enhance the journey and offer scenic places to rest and reflect.
This museum and park project, completed during my time at HASSELL, received multiple design awards and has been widely celebrated in online design communities for its respectful integration of natural and cultural heritage.
It was an honor to contribute to such a meaningful site that bridges the past with a contemporary vision of landscape architecture.
