A LIVING NATURE ART GALLERY

Walter Ryu Studio developed a conceptual design study to prepare for the RFP in Georgia, exploring how an existing building could be reimagined as a more regenerative, educational, and community-serving art and nature-oriented destination.  The architectural and interior concept was created by Walter Ryu Studio to generate an idea for a purpose.

The landscape architecture concept is based on 'open flow with nature and art'. All images credited to Walter Ryu Studio.

The study explores design concepts for a forward-looking, nature-based art gallery model, including pathways for art education, artist studios, demonstrations of reduced waste and lower operational energy demand, renewable systems, water-conscious design, ecological learning, wetland interpretation, creative placemaking, community programming, and local economic support.

The building's interior is designed to accommodate diverse needs, including flexible space for community events and the exhibition of artworks. The architecture incorporates multiple layers of ideas, such as opening and closing envelopes to provide a healthy environment and save energy.

The rooftop cafe terrace will serve as a common place for community gatherings and provide a long, open view for the community in a natural setting.

The RFP proposal shows compelling ideas and practical solutions, including strategies for generating income from the building and creative approaches to overcoming the limitations of the available parking spaces.

The program and ideas will generate local employment as a small art school and exhibition space, including a cafe rooftop terrace, which is very rare in the US setting, since most are located in commercial shopping districts.
